I’ve been writing for a new group lately. I’m trying to take a fresh look at the classic jazz quintet or trumpet, saxophone, piano, bass and drums. I love this instrumentation from listening to so many legendary jazz records. I want to treat this group like a chamber music ensemble that improvises. This new group includes Jacques Kuba Séguin (trumpet), François Bourassa (piano), Adrian Vedady (bass) and Kevin Warren (drums). I’m very excited to collaborate with these musicians. It will be a first with François Bourassa, a musician I’ve been listening with admiration to for many years.
